Excellent condition, half a dozen very
small/tiny rim chips, some minute rim chips, light
surface marks but very clean and fresh and displays
very well. Style:
Floral A rare tile, the design also seen with less
complex decoration this a genuine feast of
skills and techniques. On an impressed body,
Doulton collectors widely believe this to be
Slater's Patent (more correctly called Doulton
& Slater's Patent) but it is in fact
Marsden's Patent. The processes are different
although the effect is similar, patents protect
processes not the finished effect, indeed
Marsden's Patent preceded Doulton & Slater's
Patent and it is likely the latter observed the
former and adapted it to the process more
commonly used by the company. Anyway technical stuff aside it's a great
tile, a lively and bright design in lively
colours especially considering the limitations
of slip decoration, and in nice condition, only
occasional loss to the gilding (sometimes well
worn) which catches the light beautifully. Excellent condition, half a dozen very
small/tiny rim chips, some minute rim chips,
light surface marks but very clean and fresh and
displays very well.
