Four very minor losses to the rim, surface very
near perfect, most brilliant glazes. Style: Art
nouveau A rare design, not very rare for I have seen
a couple before, but very interesting. Primarily
designed for a wall tile to be arranged in brick
pattern, an arrangement preferred by Lewis Day
for it gives a sense of solidity to large scale
applications however when in brick pattern the
'V' at top centre is coloured in green to make
the continuity of the design. It appears that
Pilkington's made both colourways deliberately,
this came from furniture, presumably a
washstand, and so the white 'V' is more
appropriate. It may well be a Lewis Day design for the
records are incomplete, it kind of depends on
whether you view it as art nouveau, which Day
loathed, or a conventionalised floral design
which he excelled in. Versos very clean, embossed P in opposing
corners and design registration number. Half a dozen, tiny/very tiny rim chips, a few
minute rim chips, very minor surface marks, most
brilliant glazes Two tiny rim chips, a few minute rim losses,
very minor surface marks, most brilliant
glazes.
