One very tiny and a few minute rim chips/losses,
very minor surface marks. Style: Art
Nouveau An excellent monochrome design from this
excellent tile maker. A neat twin tulip design
set against a good mottled background, few art
nouveau tiles have textured backgrounds even
though it adds considerably to the effect when
colour glazed. It is much more difficult to
create a random mottled texture than one may at
first imagine for it must be both random and
balanced to create the desired effect. This
tile, albeit in another colourway, is featured
in a 1905 wholesaler's catalogue priced at 9/-
per dozen compared to multicolour tiles from
Boote starting at 5/6 and typical excellent
tiles from Richards and Barratt at around 7/6.
Slightly thicker than usual at around half an
inch. Versos very clean, some slight stain, some
clay loss from water-based adhesive. One very tiny and a few minute rim chips/losses,
very minor surface marks. Some light scrathces, marks to the rim are
glazed over manufacturing flaws, minute
manufacturing flaw pimple in the glaze.
