A good, lively arts & crafts floral design with renaissance or perhaps rococo influence. A rare technique, slip decorated on an embossed body (having an impressed outline), one of George Marsden's Patents, he had a few from interlocking tiles to printing processes. This doesn't appear to be the well-known yet oft misunderstood patent found on Wedgwood tiles, a bit of a mystery and certainly a rarity.

The technique was not very practical in use, the impressed outline prone to attract dirt especially soot and iron polish from fireplaces, also the slip on the relief relief was liable to flake. So not too surprising that it is a rarity, it is the only design I have seen in this technique, there were surely others.

Verso rather grubby, embossed Marsden's Patent, painted numbers.
