A rare opportunity to acquire a real piece of history, a tile that was fixed to the wall in the world famous Victoria & Albert Museum in London and bearing the logo of said establishment. One of few that were successfully removed during refurbishment in the 1970s and I doubt any of those that remain will ever be removed.

Formerly known as The South Kensington Museum, its name was changed in 1899 upon the visit of Queen Victoria, her last official public appearance. The Victoria and Albert Museum, often abbreviated as the V&A as seen on this tile, is the world's largest museum of decorative arts and design as is reflected by its architecture.

*Stencilled as reported by Barnard and others, it would have to be a clever stencil to leave the thin lines and central concave square protected and why go to the bother of complicated spraying when printing or sponging (if a stencil was used) would be equally effective at lower cost.

Verso very clean, embossed Minton, Hollins & Co., Stoke on Trent.
