Slender chip top left edge/corner, two small
surface chips left edge and two bottom edge, no
surface damage other than some wear to the gilding
as one may expect. Style: Floral On a rare Marsden's Patent blank with lace
pattern impressed, not the usual plain lace mesh
pattern but a paisley pattern, similar to
Doulton & Slater's later patent found on
plastic clay pottery sometimes marketed as
'Chine' ware however Marsden's Patent was over
three years earlier. Further enamel and gilt
decoration. Substantially made by Marsden and
finished in Doulton's Lambeth Studio. Verso perfectly clean embossed Doulton &
Co, Lambeth, London and patent, painted pattern
number and artist's (gilder's) initials MD.

A pretty floral tile design in
stencilled slips of quite remarkable bright pink
colouring for the process, to achieve such
colours in clay, fired to the temperatures of
clay rather than the temperature of glaze being
a phenomenal achievement. Still now well over a
century later pink glazes are problematic as a
friend who was having some tiles reproduced
nearby for a project advised.
