Very tiny chip near top right corner, minute
chip nearby, extremely slight surface marks. Style: Aesthetic Movement An aesthetic japanesque design with unusual
features. Vignettes with a bird on branch and
ship in sail quite charming but not atypical,
the holly is very unusual indeed anything we now
associate with Christmas rarely seen on period
tiles, and all set against an unusual crazier
than crazy paving 'cracked ice' background. Wood
named their tile designs after well known
writers this being Johnson. Based on a design registered to the Crystal
Porcelain Company on 8th June 1881 (according to
20th Century Decorative British Tiles by Chris
Blanchett). Verso very clean, painted pattern number.
