Chip bottom left corner, other very minor marks,
surface perfect (there's a glaze flaw on the green
leaf near right edge) • Style/technique: Gothic print &
tint A wonderful gothic aesthetic design with
stylised flowers and foliage printed in dark
brown and tinted with four colours. Such super
bright and friendly colours, whilst we now think
of gothic as rather somber in its date it was
bright and light as we see here. The design very
much in the A W N Pugin style and could even be
composed of two of his designs overlaid. The design is seen from time to time indeed
we have examples here
and here
but they are by a different company the
engravings lacking some details, the ringlets
around the border and shading on the stems and
leaves. On a Marsden blank but not one they
generally used for their own patterns Verso rather grubby, some writing in pencil,
printed pattern number.
