Slight damages near the bottom edge, very tiny
rim chips, slight staining in the craazing and
surface marks. Overall fabulously brilliantly
glazed. Style/technique: Aesthetic
majolica This is a fabulously stylish and well
executed tile. An unusual genre, aesthetic
design had pretty much run its course by the
tile that majolica technology was well
distributed and affordable. Stylised
flowerheads, impressed geometrically correct
lines reminiscent of celtic and oriental themes
and all most brilliantly glazed. Just three of these were bought many years
ago and not been seen since for sure and I can't
recall before. One with a big chunk off a corner
will end up on eBay, one has found a place in
the permanent collection, this the only good
example to be offered for sale. Verso very clean, embossed Flaxman and
painted pattern number. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
