Condition Report
Chip bottom edge, half a dozen very tiny chips,
rubbing to high points and other very minor marks.
great brilliance in the glazes.

A most unusual tile the style being in the
chequer quartered layout with aesthetic gothic
influenced designs. An interesting technique
too, a crossover between the older majolica made
with opaque glazes and later lead glazed
majolica. A strong buff clay body decorated with
both translucent and opaque glazes to mask the
colour of the clay.
Verso very clean ladder style, pattern number
painted. The die has been modified there being
evidence of a badge in the shape of Mintons
China Works Walbrook badge with the ribbons
extended and it appears likely it was made by
Campbell Tile Co.
