Style/technique: Classical majolica Manufacturer: Godwin & Hewitt Dimensions: 12" x 12" (4 tiles) Date: Design registered 1889 Colours: 4   An early majolica tile panel by Godwin & Hewitt all impressed moulding and glazed in four colours in a classical style with gothic influence. Nice for a table top or feature centrepiece. Versos are clean and ready for fixing each with the design registration number embossed.
Condition: Good Price: £125 (approx $255) Ref: 02686 Surface chip on bottom right tile is at least part a manufacturing imperfection where a piece of kiln dirty has been removed. There are a couple of small chips and tiny chips to the edges and surface, some light rubbing and scuffing mostly near the edges some of which have been fettled for the previous installation. The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light.
