A pleasant design of a riverside buildings printed and coloured underglaze in a good range of colours.

Mintons China Works had a similar series, pattern number 2475 and dating from the early 1890s, of man made structures alongside waterways in the style of Swetnam's engraving, an uncommon series as landscapes were then past their peak of poularity and rarely seen coloured. This tile seems as though it would fit in that series and probably was part of a competing series from Malkin.

Verso very clean with distinctive moulded back and embossed name.

A chip on the right edge and several very tiny/minute edge chips, light wear along the top edge. One long scratch not far from the right edge and several other very small scratches but for the most part the surface is excellent. Very clean and bright.

The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430 pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format. A larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG format can be forwarded by email if required.

The image is a little oversize rather than cropped close to the edges so that the edges can easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly spotted. Other marks described are usually not visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as one normally sees it and can only be seen with a critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch imperfections in reflected light. For more details of how we describe marks see Condition.
