Three tiny rim chips, some roughness to the tips
of the edges, only extremely light surface marks,
no wear or rubbing, very clean and bright. Style: Landscape One of a number of landscape views dating
from around 1885 view of High Tor, the hill
overlooking the picturesque riverside town of
Matlock in Derbyshire. Mintons did various series of landscapes,
this appears to be from a series of holiday
places, there are several Edinburgh scenes, some
from Warwickshire, the Derbyshire Peak District
and various other sites from around the country.
The majority of these designs are found on
teapot stands rather than tiles and they were
presambly sold as souvenirs. Other series often
appearing on teapot stands are the ruined abbey
and cathedral series although again they may not
be 'a series' as such as being made for their
market in souvenir shops.
