Couple minute chips/losses to the rim, two
glazed over chip manufacturing flaws, perfect
surface. Style:
Aesthetic movement A most unusual and fascinating design of
finely printed predominently roundels of sea
vegetables (seaweed) in a most appropriate
green-grey colour. Really stylish and most
unusual subject matter. The verso is completely
smooth, no grip pattern but I have no doubt that
it dates from the late 19th century, it had
varnish around the edge from the original
furniture and the engineering is of the
time. I've seen completely smooth backs from a
number of companies, certainly Maw and Marsden,
and they were typically made for fitting in to
jardineres, pot stands and furniture. If I was
to hazard a guess I would think Marsden is the
most likely, forever innovation and risk-taking
in design. Verso unmarked. One very tiny chip, couple minute losses to the
rim, three glazed over chip manufacturing flaws,
perfect surface.
