One of the most outstanding art nouveau tiles of all time, rarely found as one may expect for such a flamboyant asymmetric design. One of a group of five registered at the same time, one proved to be a very popular design still made in the 1930s, this the third rarest of the group two being very uncommon.

Amazing skill of the designer, for it is so wildly asymmetric yet perfectly balanced, the complexity of the flowerhead and group of leaves balanced by the simplicity and outright power of the curving stem to the right. Similarly at the bottom the angularity of the base balances the frivolity of the cluster of leaves. To my mind this is the greatest embossed asymmetric art nouveau tile I have seen to date and it is a great pleasure to be able to offer them in such wonderful condition.

And yet more the design is suggestive of music, one may think of free-form jazz. The bold stems suggestive of clefs and the groups of five slender stems of staves, the petals being crotchets. I think it is just fabulous and any serious collection of art nouveau tiles without one is lacking a great source of inspiration.

Verso very clean, embossed England and design registration number, painted pattern number.
