A lovely pair of nature study tiles of
birds, berries and blossom by Henry Ollivant
of Cliffe Vale in Stoke on Trent, a mid-size
tilemaker who produced excellent art tiles.
Printed in dark brown and painted with an
array of soft colours and brilliantly glazed.
When buying fireplaces in the Midlands in the
1970s, 80s and 90s we saw quite a few of
these likely because William Fieldhouse a
major Birmingham ironfounder was a reseller
of Ollivant's tiles, now we see them much
less frequently. The designs appear with
stronger colours too but these softer colours
are seen from time to time if less often, so
clearly not a flaw but a design choice. Versos with C.O.V. printed and pattern
number, one very smoke stained, one very
clean. Condition:Very fine Ref: 05215/6 Left Tile: Tiny chip mid right edge, surface
near perfect. Right Tile: Tiny chip upper left, very near

are manufacturing flaws.
