A rare art pottery decorated tile
illustrating a sphinx and decorated in superb
opaque enamel colours turquoise, cobalt blue and
white. Very stiff enamels giving a three
dimensional impasto feel the turquoise having
bubbled a little more than usual for this type
of finish but then the colour was exceedingly
difficult to work with..
Verso ring grip pattern in the manner of T
& R Boote, painted number and
'sphinx'.
Only very minor marks.
