Perfect. Style: Art nouveau An excellent art nouveau design, very elegant
such that it gives an impression of classical
design but look closely and there is none just
pure art nouveau. Unusual colours, the green
stems and blue flowerheads are fairly typical
but a nice peach for the infill and quite a
creamy background. A rare design, I can't recall
seeing it previously. Little is known about the company apart from
a few designs being registered in 1907 and that
all tiles noted to date have been on Johnsons
biscuit ie with their patent locks. It appears
that Johnsons pressed biscuit and Sherwin
decorated it, and that they bought plain
Johnson's biscuit for tubelining. Versos very clean but shallow clay loss from
adhesive, embossed W S & Co L (for Longport)
although mostly obscured by clay loss. Very tiny chip mid bottom edge otherwise
perfect. Very tiny chip on the outline, glazed over flaw
bottom edge. Very tiny chip lower right edge. Two minute rim chips.
