to the tip of the rim, 'chip' mid right is a glazed

a geometric four repeat design. A very full and
bold design, no spare space left on the tile the
design takes it all In a very bold shade of
green with a good range of tones. On a Boote
blank but maybe not decorated by them, Boote
sold blanks widely and this may be decorated by
another The Decorative Art Tile Co and Stubbs
& Hodgart are possibles who used Boote's
blanks. Art nouveau printed tiles are uncommon but a
great aid to the understanding of the style.
Most art nouveau tiles being in lead-glaze
majolica which developed almost in
synchronisation with the style so the two can
get confused. In the simpler print we here see
clearly the flow of the line and the extreme
styling of the flowers being very abstract and
with only the merest hint of botanical
likeness. Verso very clean, typical Boote grid,
embossed England.
