The only damage a tiny chip to the high point of
the right leaf. Glazed over manufacturing flaw
bottom right corner, the sharp edge on the petal of
the lowest flower also lost in manufacture.
Perfectly clean and most brilliantly glazed. Style/technique: Floral majolica This is an absolutely tremendous tile, a
design in the Arts & Crafts manner of
convolvous climbing a trellis made in bas relief
moulded majolica. Moulded in high relief and
with such sharp and crisp moulding that I have
only see the like on tiles by Craven Dunnill one
of the greatest of the art tile makers of the
late 19thC. This is only the second of these
tiles that I can recall seeing and although
being purchased several, perhaps many, years
apart I believe from the same original
installation. The high relief is further
accentuated by the most brilliant glazes. A
really excellent tile and a really excellent
example of the art of majolica. Verso very clean, fairly typical plain bar
grip pattern, no markings. The image is full size at 72 dpi (about 430
pixels wide) in maximum quality JPEG format, a
larger 120 dpi image also in maximum quality JPEG
format can be forwarded by email if required. The image is a little oversize rather than
cropped close to the edges so that the edges can
easily be seen and any chips etc can be quickly
spotted. Other marks described are usually not
visible at all when the tile is viewed straight as
one normally sees it and can only be seen with a
critical eye when the tile is tilted to catch
imperfections in reflected light. For more details
of how we describe marks see Condition.
