Three tiny rim chips, mark upper left is a
manufacturing flaw. Style: Chinoserie A pretty and well engraved and printed
chinoiserie fantasy landscape in the manner of
the famous Willow Pattern..There are many tales
of the origins of the Willow Pattern which was
reputedly designed by Thomas Minton one being
that it was copied from an original chinese
design. The love birds did not appear on the
early english examples and the bridge with the
lovers not on the alleged chinese example so
this may be a copy of the chinese original
should one exist. Wood named this pattern
'Chinease', rather unusually for they normally
named patterns after authors. Verso near perfectly clean, unmarked, Wood's
familiar ladder pattern.
