Apart from the almost inevitable wear to the
gilding it having been fitted in to a fireplace
this is near perfect with just a couple of very
tiny rim chips. Style: Floral A quite rarely found tile with Marsden's
patent impressed body and barbotine stencil
decoration. Glazed in a very thinly applied silk
finish glaze creating a most refined effect and
with further gilding and painting. On a rare Marsden's Patent blank with lace
pattern impressed similar to Doulton &
Slater's later patent found on plastic clay
pottery sometimes marketed as 'Chine' Doulton
& Slater's Patent likely a copy of Marsden's
insofar as Marsden's was for dust-pressed clay
only and Marsden's Patent was over three years
earlier. Further enamel and gilt decoration by
Doulton, substantially manufactured by Marsden
and finished in Doulton's Lambeth Studio. Verso perfectly clean, Doulton etc embossed,
various painted and incised pattern numbers and
decorators marks including initials AT likely
the gilder.
