One of a number of built landscapes featuring historic buildings engraved by either William Wise or L T Swetnam. A view of the historic Kenilworth Castle, still standing much as seen in the picture although 19thC development has taken over many of the surrounding fields. You can still go along the road (although it has been improved) and enjoy almost precisely the same view of the castle.

Mintons rarely coloured in prints on tiles or pot stands (although perhaps a little more frequently) which is unfortunate as they take to colouring particularly well. Many were apparently designed to be coloured as they are shown coloured in the pattern book and some details like foliage which often comes across as too intense is more suitably muted when overpainted.

Mintons did various series of landscapes, this appears to be from a series of tourist destinations, there are several Edinburgh scenes, some from Warwickshire, the Derbyshire Peak District and various other sites from around the country. The majority of these designs are found on teapot stands rather than tiles and they were presambly sold as souvenirs. Other series often appearing on teapot stands are the ruined abbey and cathedral series although again they may not be 'a series' as such as being made for their market in souvenir shops.
