Condition: Excellent Two bottom corners cropped for original fitting,
chip bottom edge, tiny chip top edge, very minor
surface marks. No crazing, a very clean and bright
tile with outstanding glaze brilliance. Style: Art nouveau A flowing floral art nouveau design with
leaves making a border and with characteristic
whiplash lines in a deep green print. A somewhat
unusual interpretation of the style for an
English tile it makes me think more of the
french taste and reminds me of the famous metro
ironwork. usually found in the bare print it is
nice to see it coloured Art nouveau transfer prints are quite unusual
and offer a great introduction to understanding
of the style, as lead glazed majolica and art
nouveau grew up almost hand in hand it is not
always easy to distinguish. The emphasis on the
movement of th line seen in print crystalises
the form without the distraction of relief
decoration. Verso very clean with rubber stamped pattern
number Marsden's 'M' which looks like an
upside-down W.
